The last thing you want is for your child to panic on the day when they face questions that they’ve never seen before.

The scholarship test itself is written by Academic Assessment Services (AAS) as part of their scholarship exams.

Because of the huge financial incentives involved (usually in the 1,000s of dollars saved) and the number of test questions (students usually need to answer every questions in 60 seconds or less) - it is a seriously competitive test that makes children anxious and parents worried.

So when should you start test preparation?

It depends on your child’s current level. We have prepared students from 1 to 12+ months before the exam.

It is not uncommon for many students to prepare more than 12 months ahead of the exam. It is a test after all and one that is high stakes.

The scholarship exam is the hardest hurdle to pass and preparing will mean that your child will be less stressed on the day from seeing a whole bunch of questions they’ve never seen before.

So what should your child be studying to prepare for the test and what is the test format?

The test varies and some schools set their own test. The information below about test preparation is provided for general information at the Year 7 entry level and your test may differ. It’s important to confirm that actual components of the test with your school.

School Test Information

Every year, Newcastle Grammar School offers the opportunity for outstanding young students to apply for a Scholarship. As part of the Assisted Places Program, the School hopes to be able to offer a student who may not otherwise be able to attend

Newcastle Grammar School and the opportunity to be part of our School community. Scholarships take the form of part remission of tuition fees and are only available to Australian citizens and permanent residents.

Scholarships offered by Newcastle Grammar School for 2020 enrolment are listed below.

Eligibility & Pre-requisites

Applications are invited from internal students and students not currently enrolled at Newcastle Grammar School. Every student regardless of the Scholarship they are applying for must sit the Academic Scholarship Examination

which will be held at the School on Tuesday, 9 April 2019. Students currently on a scholarship at Newcastle Grammar School may not reapply.

It is a requirement that an Application for Enrolment at Newcastle Grammar School be placed prior to any scholarship offer being offered.

Registration

Registration is now open and closes Friday, 15 March 2019. Applications after this date will attract a late fee.

Application Fee

An application fee of $300.00 is required to be paid online directly to Academic Assessment Services. The Scholarship Application Fee cover the required Application for Enrolment at Newcastle Grammar School.

If an Application for Enrolment has already been placed with the School, the $150 Fee will be credited to the applicant's School account.

Application Procedure

Students who wish to apply for a Scholarship must apply for the Academic Assessment Services examination by the closing date and will sit the Scholarship examination, which will be held at the School on Tuesday, 9 April 2019- candidates are asked to arrive no later than 8.20am.

Please Note: All students must sit for the examination on the same date at Newcastle Grammar School. Please ensure that you have no conflicting work, sporting or social commitments.

Applicants are also required to submit additional documentation in support of their application. Details of required documentation is provided under each Scholarship Discipline. This documentation must be submitted prior to Tuesday, 9 April 2019 for applications to be considered.

Medical conditions and taking medications during the examination:

Not all staff at the test venue/s are trained in first aid or the administration of life-saving medication such as Epipens, Anapens, asthma inhalers or diabetes devices, so parents must disclose information about medical conditionsand medication to the School and Academic Assessment Services well before the examination. Parents may be required to wait near the test venue/s during the examination to administer medication if necessary.

Please detail any food allergies in the dietary and medical issues question in the online application.

Apple or smart watches/phones/digital devices are not permitted in the examination room.

No late applications will be accepted.

Unpaid registrations will be unable to sit the examination.
