In many countries, the average week consists of five days of school and two days of weekend time, where children can relax at home. Australia should implement a three-day weekend. This is because it ensures more time to relax for students and it reduces commuting.

Firstly, implementing a three-day weekend provides more time to relax for children, which is essential to their own well-being. After five gruelling days at school, students are exhausted and overwhelmed by the fact that they only have two days to relax at home, before which they have to return to it. Implementing this three-day weekend will extend that period of time which they can relax, meaning that they are less stressed about school. Children will only have to attend school four days a week with a three-day weekend, which gives them more time to relax and unwind after school.

Secondly, implementing a three-day weekend in Australia reduces commuting. Parents have the need to travel to school and back five days a week to transport their child. A three-day weekend means that they have less of that need, which may make parents feel less flustered. In addition, reducing commuting also means reducing the amount of fuel being consumed, which can be very expensive over the whole year. Parents may feel more relaxed only having to drop and pick up their child from school four days a week.

Those opposed argue that if a three-day weekend is implemented, schools will have to cram the work of five school days into four. This may make the students feel more pressured, having to do more work everyday at school. However, many children actually prefer having longer hours of school, which will leave them with one extra full day to themselves.

In conclusion, Australia should implement a three-day weekend. This is because it gives students more time to relax and reduces commuting for parents.
