You’ve finished the course now. But before you go let’s do revision and a final exam!
Revision Points
To do well in your maths (Grade 7 entry) exam, remember: identify type, if can complete quickly, then solve, if not, move on and return with the last resort being, guess.
This will help you move through quickly but also help with getting a higher quantity of questions correct.
Overarching points to remember for each of the checkpoints are:
- Maths Shortcuts & Tips PLUS Important Mathematical Concepts You Need to Know – Know types of numbers and even/odd number rules.
- The Number Line and The Four Operators (Addition, Subtraction, Multiplication & Division) – Positive and negative numbers exist on a number line.
- Fractions, Percentages and Decimals – Understand how to convert one type to another.
- Equivalence and Inequalities, Units & Conversions and Approximations – Different units for different measurement times and remember, approximations are based on context.
- Shapes – Be familiar with your 2D & 3D shapes.
- Area, Perimeter and Volume – Know the basic calculation formulas, especially for triangles and 4 sided shapes.
- Symmetry & Shape Patterns – Use visual problem solving here to detect patterns.
- Angles – Know the different types and that internal angles in a triangle add to 180 degrees while those in a rectangle or square add up to 360 degrees.
- Reading Graphs – Look at heading, axes and the legend for information.
- Financial Maths - Savings & Profit – Know the concept of profit, loss and savings.
- Time & Date Calculations – Remember, there’s a base time and a comparison time.
- Ratios and Speed – Total up ratio parts to get the ‘whole’ and speed is distance over time.
- Distance Calculations – Convert to required measurement unit to make calculations easier.
- Chance & Probability – From 0 to 1 calculated by possible outcomes divided by total outcomes.
- Algebra & Expressions – Know how to add, subtract, multiply and divides parts of an expression along with solving for unknowns in equations and for inequalities.
- Venn Diagrams & Transposing and Solving Worded Questions – Understand equivalent wording in English when certain operators are used and use Venn diagrams to illustrate logic when needed.
